Fringes map and the calculation software
Long time ago Karl-Ludwig Bath an amateur astronomer published
his Bath-Interferometer in "Sterne und Weltraum 6/1973"
http://www.astro-foren.de/index.php?showtopic=1166
This was one of the most important tool for getting quantitativ results
of an optical systems by testing with interferometry in all spectral
colors. The Laser was invented but not payable for a poor astronomer.
So I developed that basic version of that tool and tested many different
optical systems, but at this time, we all missed a professional calculation
software for that fringes pattern. In 2000 Phillipp Keller, Regensburg,
programmed the first calculation software and I was very appreciate to
have one. But it was a basic program, too and some of our amateur
astronomers weren't satisfied and tried to compare our equippement with
a ZYGO phase shift interferometer and the accuracy of that industrial
tool. Nevertheless I compared our testing results with results of a ZYGO.
Our_results were not far from ZYGO's. End of 2003 the shareware FringeXP was
distributed and lots of the experts started to check the former results,
better than a ZYGO can do, they claimed. They waste much time in
sophisticated discussions. The serious astronomers started to work
with fringes map and with this FringesXP, an interesting fringe
calcualting software. But some features in this program were missing
and a user needed additial tools, programmed from any interested
persons in USA, but not Germany. In June 2004 Massimo Ricardi, Italy,
started for his powerfull and high professional software for calculate
fringes pattern. He is a great expert in developing usefull programms
and my part was helping him with my practical experiences. Now he has
finished his first basic version with lots of important features for
checking an optical system by an interferogram. So let me introduce
in that first edition version 1.4.
The first edition works with fringes map produced in autokollimation
or with a compensation system. It works correct with the obstruction
of the fringes map - this is a problem witch the shareware program
fringeXP doesn't solve. The AtmosFringe basic version doesn't support
the calculation auf of the curvature center (COC), but this FringeXP feature
doesn't fulfil the high exspactations, I've had. The results in autocollimations
setup are more exact than in CoC setup by a difference of 1-15 % Strehl points.

Massimo Ricardi will inform us about the details.
